NOTES

I actually practiced at home on Tuesday even though it was only for about 20 minutes. That's more than zero! I couldn't totally wrap my mind around where the 3 fills fit in the song and my snare sounds like there's a pillow on it (there's not), so I tried to figure out the sound issue first, and even though I didn't resolve it I did at least try.

However, I am graduated above wherever I was this time last year because despite NEVER practicing I'm still able to do new things at lessons without some of my previous blockers. Many of the movements are now in my muscles, and the beat is easier to catch, so it's much less challenging to grasp stuff.

I've also noticed lately that I can make out the drum part in (many) songs and recognize whether it's my level, which is not something I could do for a long time. It was all simply either "way too easy, of course I can do that" or "nope."

Reasons I'm learning "Greedy Fly":

  • Tab was available ("Synapse" was not)
  • Left foot work
  • A general shift focus from being a "metal drummer" to learning more abut grunge - partially because it'll take me 100 years to get to metal footwork, so I wanted a more realistic next milestone. Also because I've been listening to a lot of it thinking I could probably play that.
  • I know Razorblade Suitcase by heart in many different ways and so it's probably easier to learn the songs on drums than others I haven't listened to so much that the album is imprinted in my body.
